The Goals
Standardize on a common platform that the owner and their service providers can easily monitor & manage all of the local branches. Ensure easy access from multiple workstations, and multiple mobile devices. Standardize on an interoperable and scalable platform to provide consistent occupant comfort. Achieve energy performance goals and implement data analytics.
The Challenges
Coordinating maintenance, repairs, and technology changes. Limited budget, manpower, and resources. Numerous legacy systems to upgrade and integrate. Contractor and vendor management.
The Solution
Standardize on the open Niagara Framework. Deploy a comprehensive and robust suite of tools. Integrate HVAC, lighting, security, and energy management. Implementation of a scheduled HVAC preventative maintenance program
The Results
Significant cost savings and increased sustainability. Simplified Maintenance and trouble-shooting. Enhanced occupant comfort and improved equipment performance. Greater visibility and control though real-time monitoring.
The Goals
Standardize on a common platform that the owner and their service providers can easily monitor & manage the VMI Post (aka Campus) from multiple workstations and mobile devices.
Replace existing obsolete controllers and create a new standardized controller group in which multiple quality BAS contractors can successfully participate with ongoing projects and technical support.
The Challenges
Integrating legacy Building Automation Systems (Trane, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Alerton, and Honeywell) into a single Tridium platform and reuse many of the existing floor-level controllers to retain previous investments.
The Solution
Chesapeake Controls replaced all the existing “Master Building Controllers” with Tridium JACEs and successfully integrated the proprietary floor-level controllers throughout the campus utilizing Tridium 3rd party developed communication drivers.
Selecting Honeywell as the new standard for BAS products allows VMI to maintain a single inventory and provided competitive pricing from multiple channel partner contractors in the region.
The Results
The entire Building Automation System at VMI is now running on the Tridium platform and all of the user interface experiences are nearly identical for thing like; graphical displays, scheduling, alarm management and reports.
All future projects of new construction and renovation are competitively bid based on Honeywell controls from licensed and pre-approved contractors.
VMI’s energy manager can fine-tune each building’s HVAC system to be in line with sustainability goals while maintaining student & faculty comfort levels and indoor air quality performance thresholds.
The Goals
Provide consistent occupant comfort and healthy learning environment, while continuing to achieve energy performance goals. Implement data analytics to monitor and maintain precise air quality.
The Challenges
Free cooling and fresh outside air has been the standard for reducing equipment run time and saving energy costs for years. However, the current outside air quality has become more susceptible to pollutants such wildfire smoke and vehicle emissions.
The Solution
Build a system that can measure both indoor and outdoor air quality and run the necessary logic to determine the best course of action for energy savings. This process will allow for fresh air to operate as free cooling whenever possible, and prevent harmful pollutants from entering the building.
The Results
Significant cost savings through utility reduction and increased occupant comfort. Greater visibility and control though real-time monitoring.
